Hearts of Glass, Steel, Fire and Ice: Part 21
"Well then, this next bit should prove even more interesting."
Even in her befuddled state, Orihime could never mistake that voice. The voice of one whom she had not seen in quite some time, but whom she had known since she was a child.
Struggling to lift her torso up while fighting down the contents of her stomach and her spinning senses, Orihime suddenly felt two strong hands push firmly on her shoulders and force her back down. Only this time, her head didn't land on the snowy ground, but on someone's lap.
"Don't even think about it, child," said Yoruichi as the woman looked down at Orihime sternly, "You're in no fit state to do anythin
Rukia didn't feel the compulsion or need to argue with Yoruichi when the woman had carried her into a room and laid her down on a soft bed. Unlike the previous evening with the meat and hairbrush, however, Rukia didn't have the heart or energy to fully enjoy the luxury of sleeping on a real bed for the first time.
After Yoruichi laid Rukia down, she sat down on the edge of the bed and pushed Rukia's hair back. The woman's soft, warm hand remained there for several seconds before she lowered it to the side of Rukia's face. Yoruichi's thumb gently scraped along the underside of Rukia's eyes and the proceeded across her cheek, wiping away the t
"What happened?"
Chad vocalized the question Rukia herself was asking mentally. At first, Rukia wasn't entirely sure the captain had heard Chad's inquiry, but then he carefully placed Orihime's hawk form in Chad's hands so that he could swing himself out of the saddle. As she was passed over, Rukia heard the hawk give a weak, screeching cry to which Chad responded with soothing words and careful stroking of her feathers away from where the arrow protruded. For his part, when the captain dismounted his face grimaced in pain for less than a heartbeat before resuming his former expression of pain over seeing his wife weakly struggling in Chad's
"So, what happened?" Rukia wanted to ask, but couldn't convince herself to say aloud. Without a doubt, Rukia knew that she never would have believed such a thing was possible yesterday. Today, however, Rukia was of a different mindset since such a preposterous idea explained almost everything she had heard, observed and considered strange.
Unlike Orihime, Ichigo was not able to read Rukia's thoughts and said instead, "As you have probably guessed by now, while my wife and her two companions are creatures by day, Chad, Renji and I are those wild animals you saw last night."

Rukia was brought back to reality when Renji came running back and announced, “Horses are all ready and packed, Captain!”
The captain turned to nod at Renji in acknowledgement as he reached up with a gloved hand towards the hawk still perched on his shoulder. Carefully, he prompted the bird to climb onto his hand and then transferred it onto Renji’s shoulder. Without another word, Renji took off with the bird in the direction he had come from.
Ichigo looked back at Rukia and said, “You only just met us this morning and right now you have no choice but to believe what I am telling you rather than inquiring and making
As Rukia vaguely nodded in acknowledgement of Orihime's introduction, she wondered exactly how she should broach the subject of just how Orihime knew her name. Orihime took care of that.
"You look perplexed. Is something the matter?"
"Um," Rukia answered slowly, "when you and your friend were over there, I really wasn't trying to be rude, but I heard you use my name and…"
"I see," said Orihime with a small smile, "and you're wondering how I could possibly know your name when we've only just met."
When Rukia nodded in assent, Orihime explained, "The answer to that would be that Captain Kurosaki told me about you. He didn't tell me mu
Rukia was startled awake by a ferocious growling. The most fearsome growling known to mankind: the growling of a ravenous, hollow belly. A split second after she located the source of the growl, Rukia figured out why her body was reacting in such a way: she could smell food. Real food. Not the questionably murky gruel that used to be served in Nest of Maggots, but honest to goodness meat roasting over a fire and possibly a potato or two.
In the blink of an eye, Rukia was dressed and she carefully made her way down a few branches in order to get a better look. Below her, was a figure enshrouded by a large black cloak with the hood pulled over
“Just a little further. Ugh, it just has to be…”
Rukia paused to sneeze and then quickly shake the dirt out of her eyes that had cascaded down upon her head when her head hit the earth above her. Reaching forward with both hands to pull herself along, Rukia felt her fingers sink into something squishy.
Wrinkling her nose in disgust, Rukia muttered, “Gross…I really hope it wasn’t more bugs…or excrement…but then again, I suppose escaping criminal beggars can’t really be choosers.”
Pulling herself forward, Rukia saw that she had grasped mostly earth with something gooey inside. She c

Conquering Emperors and Empires: Part 2
The leather saddle creaked slightly as Ichigo's horse moved slightly to the right and adjusted its footing before becoming motionless once again. Even though there was not a sound to be heard other than the wind lazily going by and the sporadic sound of leather creaking or metal clinking, Ichigo could tell that everyone was about at their limit with this supposedly routine inspection.
Five years. Had it truly been five years since he'd first left Rome? Four years since he'd been promoted to centurion? Now, he and the rest of the centuries were home with plenty of plunder, slaves and proof of land acquired in the emperor's name and just now i
The rest of the night passed completely uneventfully.
From his vantage point with the security cameras, Ichigo was able to observe Byakuya doing his butler kinds of tasks like polishing the silver, Hisana preparing different dishes and then setting them to the side for later, Sora working in his office on paperwork or making several calls and finally Rukia floating around the house helping with whatever needed to be done. At one time she'd be chopping vegetables or fruits for Hisana to put in the blender to make the vampires' meals [Author's Note: explanation on that coming later] and then a bit later Rukia would be helping Byakuya replace a

Later that evening, Ichigo saved Orihime's life for the first time…but not in the way he would have anticipated.
After his thorough inspection of the house's security system and finding only a bare minimum of minor things that might need to be updated or replaced, Ichigo was starving and really glad that Sora had thought enough in advance to have Hisana prepare dinner for about nine o'clock.
Having very heightened senses not only from being a werewolf but also from training himself to see more, hear more and react faster than any other bodyguard had very few drawbacks. However, in this instance, being able to just barely smell all sor
It's been a long while since I've done anything over here, but I guess when it rains it pours. I just posted something over on my Tumblr account and I'm going to copy and paste what I wrote over there into this journal so that anyone who cares to can give me their input over here.
I am an idiot...but I’m going to do this all the same.
If any of you have started following me here [on Tumblr], on ff.net or dA, you likely know that my chosen artistic medium is writing fanfiction. For those of you who have gone through my stories or have been following me for a while, you also probably know that back in 2012 I wrote a really long fanficti

1. What's your favorite sport? (To play or to observe)
I used to be slightly more into sports when I was younger, so I'm lucky if I know who's playing in the final of anything or even when the finals are held. However, the sports I'm usually interested in watching are hockey (go Red Wings!!) and soccer, but I watch more hockey than anything else.
2. Which country would you want to live in for a month?
Hmm...how about Europe in general?
3. Who's an artist you'd like to meet?
Another tough one...umm...depends on what k
It's been quite a while since I interacted with all of you, so I thought I'd do something that just popped into my head right now. Most of us at one point have probably tried turning on iTunes and typing out the first fifteen songs that come up when we turn it on random, but I thought I'd do something a little different just for fun and giggles. Along with the twenty songs that pop up, I'm going to type which favored couple (or not so favored as the case may be) I think of when I hear the song. Any of you are welcome to do the same and if you do, send me the link so I can see. =D
